You're Already Awesome

Really think about this quote! There are so many other people that think you are awesome. Add you to that list!

Often we are not accepting of ourselves because of the expectations put upon us by loved ones, the media, and all the unsolicited advice "you should do this, you shouldn't do that".

Although our friends and family really want the best for us, most often the expectations are based on their own strengths, beliefs, and experiences, not ours.

For example, there are two ways to approach an upcoming project or task:
  1. The Sprinter: The deadline is in 3-months and your brain can't begin to focus on it until it rises to level of urgency.
  2. The Marathoner: This type needs to work consistently checking tasks off until the project is complete.
I used to WANT to be a "marathoner", but I am the "sprinter" type. My younger self would feel bad for procrastinating. But, I now realize that my brain is sharper and more focused when I feel a sense of urgency to get it done.

When I learned about these two different approaches, it made me realize that each way utilizes people's strengths and my way was okay. Once I started accepting that about myself, I no longer feel bad for procrastinating and I can balance my projects with more confidence.

Accept yourself where you are at. Wishing we could be a different version of who we are is unrealistic. Yes, we can have goals, but to not accept ourselves now is to dismiss our unique strengths and all our past achievements.
