What Could Go Right?

perspectives Sep 16, 2022

Often, we may want to try something new, but we don't move forward because we have a tiny file in our head of all the things that could go wrong. Whether it's starting a new business, changing careers, traveling somewhere new, or going back to school... whatever the endeavor, sometimes our minds go to a place of worry to justify our fear of trying something new. Although this fear and worry can sometimes keep us from harm, if we only focus on what can go wrong, it will kill our ambitions, goals, and dreams.

When we focus on what can go right, we open ourselves up to possibilities and positive changes to help us achieve the life we want. It's a well-known belief that we attract what we focus on. When we put ourselves into the mindset that things will go right, we will be looking for the things that are going right. When we see those things, we can move farther down that path and find more opportunities and experience the benefits of personal growth, life lessons, and new adventures.

However, when we focus on what can go wrong, we will be looking for things to go wrong, and when they do, we will confirm our belief that things won't work. When we do this, we are so focused on what will go wrong that we miss new opportunities that present themselves for more growth, lessons, and adventures.

If you think back to a time when you took a chance at something new, what were your rewards? Even if you didn't achieve the results you were hoping for, did you learn a new skill or lesson that you still keep today? Now, think of a time when you did NOT take a risk and have regrets. Would you go back and change it?

We have the power to change our mindset. It takes practice but gets easier in time.

Use the scenarios you came up with to learn from as you think about what you want for your life. Start thinking about what can go right so you can enjoy all the benefits you deserve.
