Level of Consciousness

perspectives Dec 10, 2021

Our level of consciousness is our point-of-view that we have based on our life's experiences. Because we are all unique, we have had different experiences that make us who we are today. Our perspectives are shaped by events in our childhood and adult lives.

Our perspectives shape our self-worth, our values, what we think we deserve, and how we treat others, to name a few. Some of us were fortunate enough to have had good role models that taught us how to communicate, attract healthy relationships, and maintain a sense of well-being.

But not everyone.

Some people never had the benefit of understanding that they are valuable or that they deserve happiness, love, and respect. Some people were denied basic needs that should have been filled to help motivate, inspire, and give them confidence.

Basic needs we all deserve, but have not always been given:

  • Food / water / shelter
  • A safe environment
  • Feeling loved and a sense of belonging
  • Respect of self and others

When these basic needs are met, Self-Actualization can be realized.

People who achieve this have a strong sense of self-worth. They are good critical thinkers with a moral compass. They can self-regulate their emotions and live an authentic, drama-free life.

Seeing others communicating and behaving in ways we don't understand or that provoke anger and frustration can lead us to criticize them. We may ask ourselves: "why would someone do that?" or "what were they thinking?"

Criticism and judgement ultimately breaks down communication and connection.

By gaining awareness on how often we criticize others and why helps us reduce negative thinking. Awareness allows us to be more understanding and open-minded...creating more space for empathy and deeper connections.

Everyone is doing their best from their level of consciousness.

We can help each other learn and grow so past events don't have to limit our future potential.
