Any person that has lived a good life will tell you to...
Oct 16, 2020
Too often we hear from people on their death bed about the experiences they wished they had taken. They often regret not living life to the fullest and enjoying each moment. Some excuses we can make to avoid new experiences are being too busy... worried we're too 'old'... too many bills... feeling like we don't deserve it... too fearful of change... or maybe we have taken on other people's negative beliefs about that experience.
In the end, we only regret the chances we did not take, relationships we were afraid to have, and the decisions we waited too long to make.
As hard as it may be for us to try something new, what we learn about ourselves, including our resilience and strength, will be worth it. Maybe you want to earn a degree and are afraid you're too old. You will be 4 years older no matter if you enroll in school or not. Maybe you're not happy in your career and have always dreamed of doing something else. Again, the time will pass anyway. Regardless of how 'old' you think you are now, what do imagine you want to do in the next 10, 20, or 30 years?
Another example about a new experience is traveling. How many times have you tried to save for a trip or thought about saving for a trip you want to take, only to have the money spent on bills, car repairs, home repairs, etc... Maybe planning a less expensive trip option is a better fit for you? You could travel off season, you could find places that are closer but have the same vibe as your dream vacation spot. Just because we can't take our 'dream' vacation right now, doesn't mean we can't create joyous times and amazing memories.
Any person that has lived a good life will tell you to:
- Take that trip
- Enroll in that course
- Get to know that person
- Make that decision
- Learn a new skill
- Shift your perspective
What are you waiting for?
