Focus on What You Can Change
Oct 15, 2021How much time is wasted on regret, fear, overwhelm, and stress?
If you feel regret about something that happened, let's take a moment to understand why we are holding on to the regret and what we CAN do to look at the situation differently. We cannot change what happened in the past, we can however, focus on what we have learned and what we have gained from that experience. How did that situation help you grow as a person, in relationships, or in your professional life?
When faced with an opportunity and you feel afraid or overwhelmed with the "what if's?", ask yourself what you can change about this scenario. Can you minimize your fear by understanding the root of it? Can you meditate to lower your heart rate to reduce the stress you are feeling? Once you feel more calm, can you break down the steps into micro-goals that you can feel comfortable with?
If it is a current circumstance that you feel stuck in, assess what part of it you can change. Feeling stuck is not a good way to feel. If that is what we are focusing on, it is hard to make a change. If we look at all of the options, there is likely something that can move us forward. Put your energy and focus there and you can have valuable results.
If something is bothering you and you feel like there is nothing you can do to change it, sometimes it's best to just focus on something else. Situations have a way of working themselves out.
What we focus on expands, so if we focus on what we can’t change we will be limited. If we focus on where we can change, our options are limitless!
